Troy A.
Some of you may have Now heard of a little town in Texas called Uvalde. This week 21 people were gunned down in an elementary school.I’m not ok with this on many levels but it’s the school district I got my start in teaching at. One of the teachers that passed away was one I started with 17 years ago. This post is not about finding a solution but about using music for therapy and healing. I wrote some lyrics based on the large amount of images in my head and the feelings I have as a teacher who deals with this possibility. If anyone want to put instrumentation to it or sing it that would be great.
“Uvalde Massacre aTribute to education”
I spent 4 year learning what to say to you
I learned how to write the perfect lesson -plan
I spent days and nights worried about you passing state exams, based on all I taught you from training I had.
CHORUS
Your bright smiles , your joy, fills the room
No on can forget you
You’re a shining star.
Look at you, passed all the exams
Just loving the smiles as you enter my room
I feel your excitement, our time together is coming near,
it’s awards day, an end to another great year, listen to your parents cheer
‘’miss are we going to watch a movie today?”
Yes, you just wait and see
It will all be set up when you return from lunch, too me.
CHORUS
Your bright smiles , your joy, fills the room
No on can forget you
You’re a shining star.
Oh my beautiful class, I don’t know what to say.
The movie will have to wai .
We are on lockdown kids
Here is the plan, get down and hide,
Stay really really still, I love you babies but this is not a drill.
Minutes passed and my worry grew
Shhhh……there’s a bang on the classroom door
We had the perfect lockdown plan, it was in place
Kids hide, be silent, don’t move, don't cry
CHORUS #2
Your bright smiles , your joy, filled the room
No on could forget you
You are still a shining star.
I see their smiles disappear, I can feel their fear
Our time together is gravely near.
During my years of college they failed to train me for this. I was taught how to fight dyslexia and tackle academic woes. But that in-depth curriculum never taught how to combat unknown assault rifle carrying foes.
Here comes my final exam. I’m going to protect you class with all that I know
.The bells rung, 21, ears go numb, early dismissal on a movie day, only 21 were dismissed, only 21 had an early dismissal day.
CHORUS#3
Their bright smiles , their joy, fills the world
No one will forget you
You will always be a bright star.

The day that I figured out how to transpose harp tab from 2nd position to 1st position was amazing. Then when I played both and they sounded the same my mind was blown! Music is becoming less of a mystery but I know I have a longer journey to go.
